Mens Presents and the Bathurst 1000

Fans of V8 supercars rank the Bathurst 1000 as the utmost of races in Australian motorsports. The Bathurst 1000 draws crowds from fields afar for this spectacular racing event. There are many more knowledgeable people on the actual cars of the Bathurst 1000 than I, but when looking at some mens presents the other day with names such as Hardie Ferodo 500 emblazoned on them, I decided it was time to explore further the history behind such names and the heros behind them. Significance and History of the Name: Beginning at Phillip Island as the 1960 Armstrong 500, the 500 mile race, while comparing which makes had the best combinations of speed, ability, and dependability, also held an opportunity for Armstrong to advertise its products, particularly its shock absorbers.

After only three years of use, the track at Phillip Island was worn down and not suitable for racing, so in 1963 the race was moved to the Mount Panorama track in Bathurst, NSW. (for those who may be interested, the Mount Panorama track is aptly named due to the incredible view overlooking the fields around it!) Over the years the race has changed names due to sponsorships, most recently being termed the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, but the legendary merchandise of mens presents still has names such as Hardie Ferodo 500 and Armstrong 500 emblazoned on it. Cars of the Bathurst 1000: In the beginnings, the 1960 Armstrong 500 was specifically for only Australian made cars, whereas now it has branched out and included cars such as Nissan, Ford, and the BMW. Holden and Ford still hold the significant titles, and the Big Bangers have gone down in history. Famous Names of the Bathurst 1000: While Holden ranks for the highest number of wins for the car make, there are some drivers’ names that have gone down in history as legends of the Bathurst race. Names such as Peter Brock, Bob Jane, and Jim Richards have become household names amongst car racing fans. Why is this so? Peter Brock rightfully earned the title King of the Mountain due to his nine victories, and winners of the Bathurst 1000 now receive the Peter Brock Trophy in honour of this legend.

Bob Jane, most commonly known to the general people for his national tyre company, won four successive races, giving him an excellent foundation for his entrepreneurial endeavours in starting his automotive businesses. And Jim Richards? Well, since his beginnings in 1978 until the present day, he still holds the record for the most starts in the race – 35. He has also won the race 7 on seven occasions. Though not as highly ranking as the first three drivers named, Allan Moffat deserves a mention. A Canadian-born man, Moffat is Ford’s most successful driver in the race and in 1977 won his fourth Bathurst 1000. While this only barely touches on the significance of the Bathurst 1000 in the world of motor sports, I have attempted to give an overview of one of the greatest races in Australian motorsports and explore the significance of some of those legendary titles I saw on various mens presents – the titles that will be remembered down through the years of motor racing.

How to Design Speed Training Tasks For Female Athletes?

The era of equality has finally provoked women all over the globe to step forward in almost all the fields. Women these days are found to participate enthusiastically in most of the sports activities and in fact all the sports have a special category for women. The encouraging and overwhelming interest of women in sports has given rise to specialized sports and speed training sessions in their respective fields. Why speed training sessions are designed in a different way for women? Athletics is amongst that field of sports that requires lot of hard work, strength and stamina. The various speed training techniques have been designed aiming to work towards the improvement of speed and endurance parameters. These sessions have been designed separately for men and women based on the various facts including that the two are entirely opposite and need to be trained separately.

The underlying truth behind why the speed training sessions are designed separately for women is: v The kind of bone structure women posses is quiet different as compared to men so speed training technique has to be designed wisely. The flexibility and resistance parameter of the bone structure is one big hurdle in speed training of women. v It is a well known medical fact that women have high fat content overall as compared to men and so their speed training session must be rigorous yet not too difficult to perform. The body fat is a source of energy so the training session must be planned such that it utilizes the energy constructively. v The nutritional requirements are an important part of speed training so the food and nutritional requirement for men and women vary greatly. This is the reason that the plan to train must consider the gender difference, as a wrong diet plan will make the athlete unhealthy and so it will affect their performance. Vitamins, minerals and proteins are an essential aspect and they are to be added wisely in diet. v The muscle strength of women is different from the men, the speed training sessions must aim to develop the muscles and increase their strength, however the exercises meant for men can be used but the way of performing should be altered.

The strategy to enhance endurance and stamina must be such that the female athlete is able to cope easily, the tolerance levels and load must be increased gradually as drastic increase can lead to injuries. v The speed training session must provide instructions on the various sports injuries that might occur and what all precautions and preventions a female athlete must take as men and women have a different way of coping up with the stress. v Ideal speed training must provide information on all the kinds of the exercises that a female athlete must avoid so that they do not injure their ligaments and muscles. The speed training session for any athlete either a male or female aims to develop the speed, decrease the reaction time, enhance the endurance and stamina. The training session for women must be designed separately based on their ability to perform and cope up. Sebastian Vettel Becomes The Youngest Two-time F1 World Champion

Not even Jenson Button’s victory at the Japanese Grand Prix kept the 24-year-old German driver from winning his second title at the Japanese Grand Prix. Prior to the Japanese Grand Prix all that separated defending champion Sebastian Vettel from renewing his title was just one point. The 24-year-old German driver had not abandoned a single race in the 2011 Formula 1 season, where after 15 events his worst result had been a 4th place. At Suzuka Circuit he was going to start the race from the pole position, setting the perfect conditions to clinch that missing point and claim his second consecutive championship. With the battle for No. 2 in the championship boiling hot between McLaren British drivers Jenson Button (185 points) and Lewis Hamilton (168 pts), Spaniard Fernando Alonso from Ferrari (184 pts) and Australian Mark Webber from Red Bull Racing (182 pts).

The race at Suzuka Circuit wasn’t going to just an easy ride through its 53 laps for Vettel, since as former World Champions these four drivers were only used to giving all they got, despite no longer fighting for the title. In the first lap Button claimed through his radio a penalty on Vettel, who had evidently blocked his way, and if it wasn’t because the British driver used his breaks on time and put his wheels on the grass, both of them could have ended up abandoning the race. Button’s first attempt to pass through the German had not been successful, and neither his complaint, but he was going to get his revenge after lap 20, when Vettel’s second pit stop of the race allowed him to claim No. 1. Vettel was going to fall down one more position, since with 10 laps to go he received orders not to risk the race when he was challenged by Alonso, who claimed No. 2. The 24-year-old driver only needed one more point to become the youngest two-time F1 World Champion, and with the third place he was securing 15 points.

On their way to the podium Button wanted to know why Vettel had blocked his way on lap 1, to which the German replied that he “didn’t want to put him in danger”, but he thinks that considering the fact that he was ahead of Button, rather than besides him, he had the right to defend his position. During the celebrations, which were not prolonged for too much time, since the energy drink squad had to pack everything and start preparing the upcoming Korean GP to be disputed this weekend at Yeongam, Vettel excused himself for not finding the right words to express his feelings, but highlighted that he “couldn’t have done this without all the support from the team.” Despite having secured title with four races still to go, Vettel has more reasons to keep him motivated, such as tying the pole position record hold by Nigel Mansell since 1992 with 14, just two more than the 12 that the German has won this season. Therefore you can expect more from the champion at Korea.

Running Itself Is a Kind of Rhythm

Running is a dialogue that I talk to myself. When running becomes a habit, in the process of running, I think I sometimes do think and will think a lot of things. Sometimes I would like to run under the sun at a noon summer running in the mountains, and at that time, my brain will be empty, my spirit will be highly concentrated and my thinking will be quite clear. You are likely to experience this sort of rhythm only when you run up. Running mountains can make it easier to drive the memory of genes. There are lots of tastes among that sort of joy, such as the achievement feeling that comes from challenging the nature as well as the force of impact from comparing feet with the natural world. You can imagine that the mountain, the sky and the canyon are so wide, however, you are so small, but you are running, and you are making a dialogue with the nature. This kind of intimacy is the original impulse that is carried by your genes themselves.

Runners are going to undergo various body experience under diverse outdoor environments. Sand Leroy, an outdoor brand, and Noah is its marketing director. Previously, I love mountain-climbing on foot, and I particularly hate to run on the highway, because I think it is very dull and boring. But after I attended The North Face 100 Beijing Changping Outdoor Endurance Challenge Race, I completely changed this view. I will run for running in cities, but I will daily pay attention to PM2.5 numerical value that is published by the U.S. Embassy website. I will run to the work place from home when it is a great day, moreover, I will run home at night as well. I often go to mountains for cross-country races, and it is the most favorite thing I like to do on weekends. In fact, the running environment can be changed continuously. Sometimes, I will run on the rolling hills, the scenery of every uphill, downhill and turning are not the same. It is not boring at all when you notice the rhythm of your breathing and the rhythm that your body reflects to you. I have written my first running experience, which can be described as “unforgettable”. When I was studying at the University of Hong Kong at that time, I previously have participated in the Hong Kong 5000-meter race. I lost the race for my kinds of reasons, and then I laid my running shoes aside and neglected then for some time. On one occasion, I accidentally saw an advertisement in an old “OUTSIDE” magazine.

Within the full two pages, there were no bright colors or celebrity endorsements, however, in the rainy night, there was just a straight road through the solitude of the wilderness and a person ran to the distant mountains alone. There were small print located on the top left page corner, which read that when could a jogger become a runner, one day like this. When raindrops really swept over my body just at that night, it as if swept my anxious for success and failure as well.

Rally Racing Involves Individual Starts With Times Kept For Each Team

Typically, rally racing involves teamwork, timing, and a certain amount of driving skill. A driver depends on his team mate to keep track of time and log in at each stop along the course. There are lots of details that must be thought of when driving in races, particularly rally style racing, because of the many stops or check points along the way. The team must keep track of gas, road conditions ahead (gravel road, dirt, curves, etc.) and even tire condition which can determine if the race course can be completed or not. Try rally driving for high speed thrills and excitement First heard about back in 1911 at a Monte Carlo Rally, the sport has grown over the years until it is world wide and highly popular with drivers as well as observers. Rally style racing actually started back in 1894 at the Horseless Carriage races in Paris. Back then a jury made the decision as to who won according to what observer reports told them. The rally sport competitions soon spread from one city to another across France and moved on to other European countries. Originally they did not compete directly with each other but were given their own start times which they competed against. An observer or passenger rides along and is given the task of keeping track of mileage, fuel, time, and also helps the driver avoid traffic hazards along the course. Even today they must be wary of such dangers as farm animals, pedestrians, and other automobiles as they race along their route. Being consistence helps rally drivers compete and win Rally style racing is all about maintaining consistency, making good times between control points, and keeping in control of each second and each mile of the course. Speed is most definitely an important ingredient to win the race and get from point A to point B, and consistency must be maintained as well. Other factors to be considered include knowing what lies ahead. Considerations like road type, road conditions, and weather should be observed. Some drivers are capable of maintaining better control of their car on gravel roads than others and this is a matter of practice and experience. Drive fast successfully means keeping your cool under pressure Driving competitively in any race style, whether it be rally style racing, drag racing, NASCAR type racing, Grand Prix style racing, sprint car racing, dirt track (oval track racing) or even soap box derby racing is a form of competition for both driver and vehicle, whether drivers actually compete head to head or individually as in rally racing. Rally drivers may have an advantage with an experienced observer or partner who keeps track of their progress over the course. Today’s modern cars are far safer than previously models and drivers who take courses in safe driving, learn, and observe the rules will be far more likely to complete the race. Rally driving is a sport rich in tradition, high in popularity, and safe for all involved so let’s keep it that way!

Rally Driving is High on my List of Excitement!

Only a very few drivers can honestly say they wouldn’t love to feel the adrenalin rush of high speed racing with plenty of curves, hills, and the unexpected maneuvering that comes about during a rally course race. It’s only human nature to have a desire to live on the edge a bit, even though that mostly means taking risks with plenty of safety equipment for a back up, just in case. Rally driving is kind of like that because even though high speed driving and the need to be experienced at fast decision making is vital you also have plenty of “backup technology”. The cars are built to withstand lots of abuse and in case there is an accident you should be safe because of all the built in safety features. Lets imagine taking one of those small cars onto a rally course and putting it through the paces, first to qualify and finally to drive it competitively. Learn to stop even before accelerating The “go pedal” is the fun one and hitting the gas causes that little car to squeal out and rapidly accelerate… fun huh? But you may also want that mechanical bullet you’ve launched to stop or at least slow down for that fast approaching curve in the track! Anticipate the upcoming curve and begin slowing by letting off the gas as you approach the curve. This is assuming you have downshifted to second gear and are in a front wheel drive vehicle. Using the foot brake you can feel whether or not you have control of your vehicle and as long as you do just slow enough to maneuver the turn without overly straining the tires on your car. If you break traction the car will begin to slide and most likely you’ll find the rear end coming around ahead of your front end.

If you steer into that slide, in other words aim the front end toward where the rear is heading you will correct your spin out and regain control. This also signified you entered that curve too fast. By finessing the foot brake (tapping on and backing off) you can maintain control without slowing down too much. Always remember everything happens in double time on the track Anticipating your next move needs to include fast reflexes and decisions quickly made and well before they’re executed. If you have driven the track and became familiar with the curves and idiosyncrasy of that particular rally track, you will be better able to anticipate what you will need to do next.

Driving in a rally type race is fun and very competitive with the person you are competing against most being yourself! Testing your reflexes and decision making is always a challenge. A rally race involves individual starts with times kept for each team. Usually the driver drives and the team member will keep notes regarding gas fill ups, road hazards such as gravel, dirt, and traffic issues to report to the driver. While not directly competing against other drivers, rally driving involves a team work that is vital to a successful run.

Sebastian Vettel Wins His Tenth Race of The Season at Korea

Red Bull Racing keeps on popping champagne bottles in Asia: two Sundays ago with the celebration of the World Drivers’s Championship clinched by the German, and this past weekend after the World Driver’s Championship was won. Far from relaxing after clinching his the World Drivers’ Championship at Japan on October 9, and becoming the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to win two titles in a row, Sebastian Vettel demonstrated at the Korean Grand Prix held last Sunday in South Korea that his thirst for glory wasn’t quenched yet. The 24-year-old German driver, who qualified in second place, wanted to win his tenth race of the season there, and since lap 1 he snatched No. 1 from McLaren’s British driver Lewis Hamilton, position that he defended until the end without setbacks. With this victory Vettel reached 349 points that combined with his teammate Mark Webber’s 209 pts, who finished in third place at Korea, secured Red Bull Racing’s second World Constructor’s title in a row, which confirms their hegemony in the F1. For the 35-year-old Australian driver this title is “a massive thing,” but he didn’t hide his disappointment for not finishing in second place. While for the German it was “good to see that the whole team keeps on pushing.” Vettel is only three victories away from tying Michael Shumacher’s record for most wins in a season with 13, set in 2004 after 18 races. And only two pole positions are keeping him from matching the all time record signed by Nigel Mansell in 1992 with 14 poles in 16 races.

Therefore don’t expect the German to slow down his pace during the last three events of the years, because despite having won all the titles in dispute with Red Bull, he still has an ego to feed. A good example of his ambition was seen during the last lap at Yeongam on Sunday, when he pushed his car to the limit in order to sign his second fastest lap of the season after the one achieved at the European Grand Prix on June. Risking at the end of a race that he had controlled was “really stupid,” like Vettel himself admitted, but he then explained that it had to do “with the ego because there are no more points.” Therefore don’t expect any less that his best effort in India, Abu Dhabi and Brazil. Getting ready for India The Indian Gran Prix will be held on October 30 at the Buddh International Circuit, and will become the first F1 event to take place on the Indian Subcontinent. There the battle for No. 2 will live another epic chapter, since only 26 points separate those competing for that position: British Jenson Button from McLaren has 222 points, followed by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso with 212 pts, Webber with 209 pts and Hamilton with 196 pts. Like Vettel these four drivers are also fueled by their egos, which guarantees a good show for the inaugural event at Buddh International Circuit that already “has full support from the government and the sports ministry,” according to the organizers: Jaypee Sports International.

Stay Hydrated When Running

During the time of running staying hydrated is critical to your running performance and, more importantly, for preventing heat-related illnesses. Athletes may suffer from fatigue, headaches, decreased coordination, and muscle cramping due to dehydration. Other heat-related illnesses like heatstroke and heat exhaustion have even more serious consequences. All runners need to pay attention on how much they’re drinking before, during and after exercise and what they are drinking.

Pre-Run Hydration is essential for runners. Assume that you’re doing a long run or race that is more than 8 to 10 miles. Then it is vital to make sure you’re well-hydrated during the few days leading up to your long run. If you void large volumes of pale urine at least six times a day that means you are well hydrate. In the days leading up to your long run (or race), drink plenty of water and nonalcoholic fluids. Alcohol can dehydrate you and also prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep. It’s not a good decision to run with a hangover because it will make you dehydrated when you start your run.

Second important thing is you have to drink at the time of running. The present advice about hydration and running is very simple — try to drink to thirst. It is known from scientific reports that drinking when you’re thirsty can help prevent under hydrating which can lead to dehydration and over hydrating. That can lead to hyponatremia mean low blood salt level due to abnormal fluid retention.

Though the above guidelines are the fundamental rules of thumb, it’s important to remember that everyone’s fluid needs vary. There is several people sweat more than others. You need to know your sweat rate to determine how much liquid you have to take during a run or race. That can vary between 1 to 4 quarts per hour. You have to weigh yourself nude before and after a timed training run. One pound of weight loss equals 1 pint of water loss. Calculate your sweat rate and use this to determine your fluid needs during a run or race. For example, if you lose 2 pounds during an hour run, that’s 2 pints or 32 ounces. Thus, you need 8 ounces of water or sports beverage every 15 minutes. Make a note of the weather conditions on that day, and remember that you may need to adjust your consumption in different condition. To see how different conditions affect your sweat rate, you need to measure your sweat rate on another day.

Last thing is post-run hydration. Always remember to rehydrate with water or a sports drink after your run. You have to drink 20 to 24 fl oz. of water for every pound lost. You need to keep rehydrating if your urine is dark yellow after your run. It should be a light lemonade color.
